On Tuesday, a federal judge in New Jersey sentenced a former employee of a Louisiana sheriff’s office to 39 months in prison stemming from charges that he traded child pornography.

The 45-year-old Bessier City man was convicted of trading violent sexual images with a man from Union City, New Jersey. The latter was sentenced to 20 years in prison in November 2009. The images at issue were apparently connected to a Canadian pornography producer, who was a sort of ring leader for an international child exploitation network that used young Thai boys as victims.

According to sources, the Bessier City man had traveled to Thailand to visit a brothel run by the Canadian man, who regularly arranged trips to Thailand in which United States citizens paid him to perform sexual acts with young Thai boys. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in January.

According to authorities, the Bessier City man admitted to exchanging instant messages with the Union City man between April 2002 and April 2003. The messages allegedly contained sexually explicit comments and discussions between the two men and pointed out that they had traded and trafficked images and videos of the material. Some of the media reportedly contained sadistic or masochistic behavior, according to authorities.

Investigators found out about the Union City man’s activity after confiscating computers from the apartment of the Bessier City man’s apartment. Two other individuals involved in the sex tourism operation will be spending 6 ½ years in prison.

Sources said the Bessier City man had previously worked as a network administrator for the DeSoto Parish sheriff’s office.
