A 30-year-old suspect is currently the target of a search currently being conducted by New Orleans police in connection with the shooting of a man in eastern New Orleans on Monday night.

According to police, the man fatally shot a 28-year-old man multiple times on Monday night. That fight reportedly stemmed from an argument over the sale of a car. Police reportedly arrested another 30-year-old man and his wife in connection with the shooting. In interviews with detectives, they reportedly gave different accounts of what took place. The man was eventually booked with second-degree murder, while his wife was booked with being an accessory after the fact to second-degree murder.

Accusations against the first-mentioned 30-year-old man arose during an interview in which the man told police that the former man, his friend, was responsible for the shooting. He said that he and his wife dragged Johnson’s body outside their home before leaving him in their front yard. Afterward, he said he heard three additional shots fired, and returned to the scene to chase down his friend, whom he believed had shot the victim again. His friend had fled, though, but the time arrived.

Gunshot residue was allegedly found inside the couple’s car and on the man’s hands, and his wife apparently told police she washed Johnson’s blood from her house before calling 911.

The case against the couple seems to involve significant evidence against them. It isn’t clear whether they’ve obtained representation or whether they will plead guilty to the charges.
