The eyes of all of Louisiana are focused on a case that unfolded in East Feliciana Parish when a child with no apparent motive allegedly shot to death his 90-year-old caregiver in a bizarre murder that has local police mystified.
East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office officials have preliminarily concluded that an 8-year-old boy purposefully pulled the trigger and killed an elderly woman recently. She was shot a single time in the back of the head as she calmly watched television. There was no indication of a struggle and no history of animosity between the child and the slain woman. In fact, neighbors and friends described their relationship as always affectionate.
However, forensics at the crime scene has led investigators to believe that the dead-aim, close range pistol shot was intentional. The slender facts at hand include that the child had been playing the video game “Grand Theft Auto IV” just minutes before the deadly shot was fired. The child claims that the gun’s discharge was accidental, but the cops have labeled the crime as a homicide.
Ironically, the incident occurred at a mobile home park on near Slaughter, Louisiana, just after 5 p.m.
After reviewing the video game in questions, investigators have arrived at what they think may the sole and unfathomable motive for the senseless homicide. They determined that the video game was highly realistic, has been associated with encouraging violence and incredibly awards points to players for killing people. Evidence indicated that the child literally left the game and almost immediately shot the old lady.
Because of his tender age, the suspect was released to his parents and his name has not been revealed. Cops reveal that Louisiana law prohibits them from charging the child with a crime because of his age. However, the law further notes that those who have not reached the age of 10 years are exempt from criminal responsibility, but will suffer sanctions under the jurisdiction of the juvenile courts. An attorney is no doubt advising the family every step of the way.
Slaughter, Louisiana, is only 21 miles north of Baton Rouge, where folks are continuing to monitor the continuing investigation.
