Baton Rouge has plenty of medical providers, and some of the best work with sports injuries and spinal problems. Now, a physician assistant at the Louisiana Sports and Spine Clinic in Baton Rouge has been charged with prescription fraud charges. According to the report, four other people were also arrested as the investigation into large scale fraud came to light. This investigation took place in the Iberville, Ascension, and Baton Rouge parishes, and now the trail has allegedly led back to these five individuals, age 39, 40, 43, 43, and 40. Each faces different charges, with some facing as many as 101 counts. All but one were booked into the Ascension Parish Prison, according to the news.
The investigation claims to have revealed that several hundred fraudulent prescriptions were written for Oxycodone and Hydrocodone between 2008 and 2013. There were allegedly also prescriptions written for ketamine, amphetamine, and anabolic steroids, according to EBRSO. According to the news reports, the people involved in the scandal delivered prescriptions to receive money and drugs from their associates. In total, the street value of the prescriptions and items traded was allegedly $1,379,595. Investigators believe that the 39- and 40-year-old males working in this circle would have used a restaurant they owned as a cover for the trade, and it was believed that they may have been using illegal drug trade to boost profits.
