The state of Louisiana pulls no punches when it comes to drug crimes, because law enforcement officials are committed to curbing drug distribution and use in order to make Louisiana communities safer. While this is wonderful news for residents across the state, it can also be a cause for concern depending on the circumstances, because law enforcement will zealously pursue convictions if they discover any grounds for charging residents with a drug crime.
State Troopers recently arrested three individuals in two separate incidents with various charges in connection to multiple crimes with different drugs. One incident occurred after a Mitsubishi was pulled over for a traffic violation, and troopers discovered more than 100 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle. Similar circumstances surrounded the other incident, wherein state troopers stopped a Mercedes and questioned the driver and passenger. After searching the vehicle, troopers discovered thousands of pills, some of which were Xanax and some of which were Ecstasy, and half a gallon of Promethazine Syrup.
Obviously the effects that these drugs can have on individuals who consume them can be quite dangerous, and those dangers can also manifest in injuries to innocent bystanders. However, it is important when dealing with legal matters not to jump to conclusions or assume that simply because a situation looks a certain way that it is absolutely that way.
Many states have drug problems, and the distribution, manufacturing and consumption of drugs can absolutely be dangerous. But just because an individual is discovered with drugs in his or her possession does not necessarily mean that they are guilty of a drug crime. There are many circumstances, which may play into these incidents, such as the drugs being planted by a third party.
