The most common types of drug crimes are things like trafficking, possessing, selling or otherwise distributing dangerous, illegal drugs such as cocaine and heroin. However, it is important to note that these are not the only types of drug crimes, nor are these the only types of drugs for which you can face criminal accusation. The law connects many different drugs with criminal activity, and if you are ever accused of any crime involving these dangerous drugs, you could be facing drug charges.

Recently in Louisiana, a narcotics task force made many arrests in connection with a medical prescription forgery ring that was allegedly distributing dangerous or illegal drugs through fraudulent pharmacy authorization. According to reports, the suspects would use the names of doctors and physicians in order to create prescriptions for the dispensing of multiple dangerous drugs. Among the substances were Oxycodone, alprazolam and more. A search in a Lafayette house uncovered multiple fraudulent materials, including driver’s licenses and receipts, as well as electronics allegedly used to create the fraudulent prescriptions.

There are many different criminal charges at play in this case, including forgery and criminal conspiracy, but with more than 50 incidents allegedly connected to them, the suspects may well face drug charges as well. Of course you always want to defend yourself from drug charges, but when you are accused of multiple crimes, it becomes even more important to defend yourself as strongly as possible. That is why legal assistance is recommended.

The more crimes you are convicted of, the more serious your penalties will be. A person may be hard-pressed to defend himself from fraud charges after being discovered with a fake license, but this same person may still be able to prove that he was not using this fake license to purchase or distribute drugs, for example. If you live in Louisiana, and you have been accused of a drug crime, do not hesitate to contact an attorney. It is imperative that you take legal action in your defense.
