Earlier this week, investigators with the East Baton Rouge Parish Violent Crime Unit got a confidential tip that a man and a woman, both in their late twenties, were killed during a drug deal at a Baton Rouge home. The informant reportedly said the two dead bodies could be found in the trunk of a car parked on Dutton Avenue near Airline Highway.
The authorities found the bodies in a Saturn Ion exactly where the informant described. After securing a search warrant, investigators searched the property mentioned in the tip. Investigators apparently discovered human blood in the living room by using a chemical agent and alternative light source. It appeared as though someone had tried to clean the area with bleach and a mop. They also found what they believed to be a bullet hole in the stove.
The caller had reportedly identified the 30-year-old man, the owner of the house, as being responsible for the shootings. The informant also named a second man, 29, who was armed and present at the home at the time of the drug deal.
Police now believe they have the two men responsible for the killings in custody. They arrested the 29-year-old man identified by the informant on Tuesday. He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and marijuana.
U.S. marshals found the man who owned the Baton Rouge home on Tuesday night. He was held overnight at Calcasieu Correctional Facility and then transferred to East Baton Rouge Parish, where he was booked into Parish prison on two counts of first-degree murder. According to authorities, this is not the man’s first run-in with the law. He was on probation for nine simple burglary convictions that took place in May 2008. Further, his record includes a theft conviction and several arrests.
