Earlier this week, a 35-year-old man was walking along Scenic Highway in Baton Rouge when a vehicle struck him. He was attempting to cross the roadway when a 1989 Ford pickup truck collided with him just before 7:00 Tuesday morning. The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Now, the Baton Rouge police believe they have the man responsible for the drunk driving accident in custody. Authorities arrested a 26-year-old Baton Rouge man and booked him into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. They charged him with one count of second-offense DWI.
Anytime a driver in Louisiana registers .08 or greater in a breath or blood test or fails a field sobriety test, that person will be charged with a drunk driving offense. However, it is important to understand that a charge is not the same as a conviction.
