Brooklyn man indicted on murder charges

In that past couple weeks, news sources have been buzzing about the killing of an 8-year-old Brooklyn boy and the strange man connected to that killing.

The gruesome murder took place on July 12, after the boy had gone missing after a day camp in Borough Park. He was supposed to meet his mother, but ended up getting kidnapped by a 35-year-old man who later confessed to killing him. That man, Aron Levi, subsequently pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree murder and kidnapping. According to sources, he was indicted on charges of murder on Wednesday.

Detectives in charge of the case believe that the boy was taken to a wedding about 35 miles north of Brooklyn shortly after he was kidnapped. Though none of the wedding attendants reported seeing the boy, detectives believe Aron's account on that matter is credible. After several hours, the boy was taken back to Aron's apartment, where he stayed for the night. The next day, Aron went to work as usual, but left early that day, and allegedly went to his apartment and drugged, smothered, and dismembered the boy for fear of being caught by police. The boy's body was later found in plastic bags in the man's apartment freezer, along with knives and cutting boards and blood smears on the refrigerator.

According to investigators, Aron admitted that he smothered the boy with a towel, but he didn't say indicate why he kidnapped the boy. A recently released medical examination confirmed that the boy died from suffocation and taking several medications, which were later found in Aron's apartment.

Aron's attorney has said that his client suffers from hallucinations and that, on the day of the murder, he heard voices in his head telling him to kill the boy. Sources said the man's attorneys will likely seek an insanity defense. As of Wednesday, a psychiatric exam of Aron was nearly complete. At the present time, there is apparently still some question as to whether Aron is mentally competent to stand trial.
