Some criminals hide away for a long, long time in the mistaken belief that John Law will finally give up the chase. When it comes to murder the case may go cold, but it is never forgotten.
A woman’s body was found March 13, 2003, in a wooded area near her home. An autopsy of her decomposed body revealed she had been stabbed multiple times. Two male friends of the murdered woman were identified as so-called “persons of interest” from the get-go. However, never enough witness or forensic evidence could warrant their arrest.
Years later, however, persistent detectives re-interviewed friends and relatives, prompting new witnesses to finally reveal themselves. The cold case specialists have now arrested the two initial suspects in the brutal slaying of the 44-year-old victim. The charges at the moment are counts of second-degree murder. One of those nabbed was cuffed right in East Baton Rouge parish. The other found himself in the slammer at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
The long-suffering victim’s mother was greatly relieved by the late development in her daughter’s murder, and how it offers hope for final closure of the grisly incident for both she and her husband. In the meantime, she praised police for keeping her informed of the new critical developments.
In yet another case illustrating the tenacity of law enforcement, the case of a 30-year-old man, shot and killed on Dec. 29, 2006, while trying to break up a fight in a parking lot has been reopened. Two men fired shots into the crowd of onlookers. There was slender evidence — one man from a white Caprice with custom “Helo” rims, and the other from a burgundy Suburban or Yukon.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for the identification of the two deadly assailants. Attorneys and law enforcement are always there for you no matter when a loved one might have been taken away from you due to a tragedy such as these.
