Teen suspected in murder in Baton Rouge

If you've been charged with a crime like homicide or murder, you may want to consider your options. A murder trial can quickly become biased by media coverage, and it's important for both parties to be heard without preconceived notions of what happened. A March 3 report was released discussing a local murder in Baton Rouge; according to police, two teens were arrested in relation to the shooting of a teen outside an apartment complex close to Florida Boulevard.

Police arrested the two teens and accused one, a 17-year-old male, of fatally shooting an 18-year-old man during a robbery that took place near Sharp Lane a few weeks before the news release. The same 17-year-old male was accused of attempted second-degree murder in October 2012 as well, and that took place just across the street from the new incident. The 17-year-old was allegedly out on bond at the time of this new incident.

According to the news, the 17-year-old has now been booked on a count of first-degree murder. He is being held without bail. The warrant claims that the teen shot the 18-year-old following a robbery; the 18-year old was suspected to have been trying to flee at the time of the shooting.

What is interesting is that the 17-year-old was only 15 at the time of the 2012 shooting, and he was being held in a juvenile detention center at the time. Now, a judge has granted a motion to move the case to state District Court for the young man to be tried as an adult. He has not been convicted of any crime at the moment, which makes it interesting that the case would be moved so quickly and that the cases would be considered together.
