Never underestimate your legal defense options

If you are accused of a crime in the United States, it is important that you remember that you are innocent until proven guilty. No matter how dire the circumstances seem, you have options for your legal defense that could have you acquitted, and even if you are not acquitted, the charges could be reduced. This is why it is extremely important to maintain your silence until you can speak to an attorney.

A pair of Louisiana residents was recently arrested on drug charges following an investigation that began when medical personnel noticed prescription drugs while they were treating a patient at the pair’s home. The drugs were seemingly for patients at the nursing home in which one of the residents worked, but after an investigation, police grew suspicious that the pair was going to sell the drugs to others. After being questioned, the pair admitted that they were involved in a scheme to sell the prescription drugs after stealing them from the nursing home.

In this instance, it may seem as though there is no chance of avoiding a conviction, and pleading guilty is your best option. However, there are many different options that you can use in defense of drug charges. For example, if police do not have the proper warrants or probable cause to search you or your possessions, then any evidence acquired during the illegal search can be thrown out.

If you are accused of drug charges, no matter what the circumstances, it is in your best interests to speak with an attorney before speaking with the police. An attorney can help you understand your legal rights and how those contribute to the legal options you can use in your defense.
