Tax preparer arrested for fraud

A white collar crime such as fraud is something that no Baton Rouge residents wants to have associated with them. A fraud charge can bring serious penalties, such as thousands of dollars in fines and even jail time. These fraud charges are often covered in the media, bringing additional unwanted attention to a defendant.

A Baton Rouge man is under arrest for alleged payroll tax fraud. He is the 67th person to be arrested under anti-fraud initiative led by the Attorney General's office and the Department of Revenue. The defendant is being accused of withholding payroll taxes for more than 100 employees of his chain of tax preparation offices and not remitting them to the state for the 2016 tax year. He is also accused of submitting tax returns for his clients with false business losses totaling more than $20,000 in fake tax returns.

A person who is being accused of tax fraud can feel like everyone is against them. These are serious charges that are often brought by high levels of government, including the attorney general. A defendant may find it to be a good idea to contact a legal professional who is skilled in criminal defense. An attorney is skilled in understanding the charges against their client and how the investigations work. They can launch their own investigation into the charges and aggressively defend their client against these white collar criminal allegations. They provide appropriate and thorough defense services for their clients, while protecting their personal and professional reputations and minimizing media coverage.

A fraud conviction can change a person's life forever. It is important for someone facing fraud allegations to have a legal defense that understands how fraud charges work and what is necessary in order to reduce or eliminate the charges entirely.
