Police detain suspects of Florida murder in Louisiana

Two men are in custody in Louisiana after they allegedly provided information about a murder of a woman Port Orange, Florida. The woman's daughter was also reportedly hurt in an attack.

Police in Baton Rouge apparently pursued the suspects' vehicle on Interstate 10, leading to a crash on the highway. Police say the men told them at the crash scene that the vehicle belonged to the woman who was killed. That apparently led to a gruesome discovery early this morning, police say.

According to reports, police in West Baton Rouge asked police in Port Orange to go to the woman's house. There, after forcing their way inside when a knock went unanswered, they found the woman, who was in her 50s, dead upstairs. Her adult daughter was in another bedroom, critically injured but alive.

According to reports, she was taken to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach. The woman, apparently in her mid-20s, was apparently undergoing surgery and treatment. It was not clear what injuries she sustained, or how severe they were.

Police would not say how they men accused of the crime knew the women, but they say the act was not random. It was not reported why police were pursuing the vehicle or what caused the crash.

According to authorities, they are continuing to question the two men who provided the murder tip. They have not been charged, but police say several charges are pending. Port Orange police reportedly planned further questioning once they arrived in Baton Rouge.
