Young girl allegedly raped by 5 men

Sexual offenses often attract widespread attention, especially offenses against children and young teenagers. Readers in Baton Rouge may have heard of the reported rape of a 12-year-old girl, and five men have recently been arrested in connection with the sexual assault, according to local reports.

On Dec. 4, a report about the case stated that a 38-year-old registered sex offender was arrested last week and was accused of raping the young girl on a weekly basis. On Monday night, a 55-year-old from Baker and a 35-year-old from Baton Rouge were also arrested and charged with aggravated rape in relation to the case. The girl reportedly named the men during the investigation as men who had raped her alongside the 38-year old during October and July.

On Tuesday, a 60-year-old man of Port Allen was arrested and charged with principle to rape and principle to oral sexual battery. According to the West Baton Rouge Sheriff's office, the 38-year-old man involved the 60-year-old on one occasion around eight months ago. The 60-year-old also allowed a 26-year-old man to participate during that incident, and he has been charged with oral sexual battery. Four of the five men are being held on bonds ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000. No bond has been set for the 38-year-old.

While the men have been charged with a number of crimes, it doesn't mean they're guilty. The courts require a substantial body of evidence to convict anyone of these types of crimes, and each person has a right to be defended by a legal professional. Every person charged with a crime in this country is entitled to a fair and impartial trial, as well as an appeal if the verdict is unfavorable.
