Baton Rouge center of drug busts

If you've been charged with a crime in Baton Rouge, you probably already know how important it is to protect yourself against the allegations. Charges like drug trafficking or other drug-related offenses can result in convictions with prison sentences and other punishments. Fortunately, with some help, you should be able to protect your reputation, family and job, since you shouldn't be treated as if you're guilty until it's proven that you are -- if that even happens.

A May 31 report shows that Baton Rouge isn't an unlikely area for drug probes. According to the news, nine people, including seven from Baton Rouge, were charged by a federal grand jury. These people were allegedly part of a cocaine trafficking organization.

The people were indicted following an extensive investigation into the drug trafficking network in the Baton Rouge area. The operation, known as Operation I Spy, hoped to catch some of the alleged criminals. The operation was run with the cooperation of the Baton Rouge Police Department, the Livingston parishes and East and West Baton Rouge sheriff's offices and other law enforcement agencies.

There were seven people indicted from Baton Rouge, ages 24 to 43. These seven are now in custody. One Pine Grove man was arrested, but a woman fled and is now an alleged fugitive from the police. There is no indication of where she may be headed.

The men were charged with different crimes, some of which included cocaine distribution, possession of a firearm, drug trafficking, conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute cocaine. If these people are convicted of the crimes the police claim they took part in, they could face long prison sentences and large fines.
