Man pleads guilty to murder charges in death of Louisiana woman

A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, bringing to a close a case involving the death of an 18-year-old Louisiana woman. The 18-year-old woman was living in Louisiana with her Air Force husband at the time of her death, which occurred in New York. The woman's body was found near a bridge in Rockville Center.

The murder charges stem from the woman's death in 2013 when she was visiting her mother in Long Island. After being arrested and charged with murder, the 19-year-old man pleaded guilty in April 2015 in connection with her death, admitting guilt in involvement with her death. The young man had spoken to a TV news crew the day before he arrested when he stated that he was part of a group that was with the young woman on the night of her death, but further details of the incident were not mentioned in the latest reports.

As part of his plea agreement, the defendant will receive a sentence of 18 years to life, but charges of first-degree sex abuse will be dropped. The young man's attorney expressed agreement with his client's decision to enter a guilty plea, sparing both his family and the family of the deceased young woman the ordeal of a trial.

Those charged with homicide face the most serious consequences possible under criminal law. Depending on the circumstances of the crime, a conviction could result in a life sentence in prison. Those facing such charges should always seek the most experienced criminal defense attorney possible. Handling a homicide defense case is difficult, and an attorney with experience in managing a case of this magnitude may be able to help the defendant protect his or her rights and avoid the most serious consequences of a conviction.
