CarQuest worker charged in Baton Rouge double murder, robbery

Last week, two men were shot and killed at a CarQuest auto parts store on Airline Highway in Baton Rouge. The bodies of the victims were found in a back room of the store by one of the victim’s wives. Evidence suggests that they may have been robbed, as some cash was reportedly missing from the building.

The police believe they now have the man responsible for this double murder in custody. Authorities arrested a newly-hired 21-year-old Louisiana man who worked at a different CarQuest auto parts store in connection with the crimes. The authorities stated that he became a prime suspect when he failed to show up for a scheduled shift during the time the murders took place.

Authorities arrested the man while he was working a shift at the CarQuest store on Government Street in Baton Rouge. He was charged with two counts of first degree murder and one count of armed robbery. According to the police, hours after he was arrested, the man confessed to both murders. If he is convicted, the man could face the death penalty.

The murder rate is on the rise in East Baton Rouge Parish. So far this year, there have been nine murders in the parish. Last year at this time, there were none. In fact, there were only nine homicides investigated in the parish in all of 2010.

The increased murder rate has caused authorities to step up investigations and aggressively pursue suspects. However, that does not mean they always have the right people in custody. That is why it is important for anyone accused of a serious crime such as murder to consult with an experienced defense attorney. A lawyer will look at all aspects of a case and ensure the accused person’s story gets heard.
