Being accused of drunk driving can tarnish your reputation, and no case is ever as black-and-white as some would have you think. Those in Baton Rouge may follow celebrity news, like this recent report about Dina Lohan receiving a DUI charge in New York. According to reports, the woman was pulled over for speeding and was charged with driving while intoxicated. She now faces a court date this September.
According to the news from Sept. 13, Dina Lohan, the mother of popular star Lindsay Lohan, was reported to have been arrested on the suspicion of driving while intoxicated. According to the State Police, the woman blew a 0.20 on the breathalyzer test, which is more than twice the legal limit in New York. New York’s legal limit is only 0.08. The woman will have to go to court over the incident, according to the news.
Reports state that Lohan was allegedly driving 77 mph in a 55 mph zone in Oyster Bay, which may have been what caused her to be pulled over. According to documents, she was charged with a DWI, aggravated DWI because of the level of intoxication she was registered as being, and for speeding in the lower speed zone. Police reported that they called emergency personnel when Lohan claimed she was injured during the arrest. Emergency personnel stated that she was fine, according to the police report.
While it might seem that your DUI arrest or charges are clear cut, it’s important to remember that cops must follow procedures in order to charge you. Don’t automatically assume that you have to plead guilty; you may have legal options that could spare you time in jail, get you a reduced sentence, find a way to get you community service, or you could have the charges dropped altogether.
