Louisiana natives know that drug offenses are serious, and they can result in time spent in prison, fines and permanent records that make it hard to keep or obtain a job, have good relationships and will impact other vital parts of your life. That’s why it’s important to maintain a solid defense if you’re ever charged with a drug crime.
According to recent news out of St. Martinville, Louisiana, two men have been arrested on drug distribution charges. The men, a 21-year-old from Breaux Bridge and a 23-year-old from Lafayette, are now being held on bonds of $500,000 each. The two men were booked on Oct. 7 on the charge of possession with the intent to distribute over 400 grams of the popular club drug, MDMA, which is also known as Ecstasy.
An odd factoid about this news report is that the reports from police indicated that they knew about the men due to information they received from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency. The agency claimed that it had intercepted a pack of illegal narcotics when they were shipped to the U.S. from China. They did not indicate how the two men were supposedly linked to this crime, but the report does show that the men tried to pick up the package containing the Ecstasy from a local post office in Breaux Bridge.
In this case, there are many factors that aren’t clear, and it’s far too soon to say which way a verdict would go. If you’re charged with dealing drugs or the intent to deal, it’s wise to protect yourself with a solid defense and to make sure you’re treated as if you’re innocent until you’re proven otherwise. You have a right to protect your image and reputation, and you should have a trial without bias.
