Louisiana readers may be aware that heroin use is growing in the state. However, now one man has been charged with murder because he injected her with the drug. According to the report, the man injected the woman because she didn’t know how.
According to the news, the woman was at her mother’s house the day she died. Her mother claimed that she thought her daughter was just tired, so she let her sleep. The following morning, she found her unresponsive, and her daughter was pronounced dead when she arrived at the hospital.
Now, the man who injected the woman is accused of injecting her with a lethal dose of heroin, even though she was acting normally throughout the day. On Nov. 13, he was indicted on a murder charge in Baton Rouge for the 19-year-old woman’s death. The man’s attorney claims that this charge is only based on the allegation that heroin was the direct cause of the woman’s death, but that may not be able to be proven, according to the news. The woman also had other substances, such as cocaine, after her death. The combination of drugs or other ingested substances could actually be found to be the cause of her death, but until that is proven, the 24-year-old man will be indicted on these charges.
According to the news, the point of a second-degree murder statute that includes distributing drugs that prove to be the direct cause of a person’s death was supposed to be aimed at dealers, not at recreational users.
