33-year-old man sentenced to life in prison in East Baton Rouge

If you've been accused of a murder, you're probably worried about how it will affect you and your family. A murder charge can result in all kinds of penalties and punishments, from huge fines to years of your life spent in prison. If you've been struggling with a murder charge, finding an attorney to speak with in Baton Rouge is crucial. You have a right to a fair and just trial, as well as a strong defense against the charges.

If you follow the news, you might have heard about a 33-year-old man who has been given a life sentence for the murder of his grandfather. According to the story, the man was convicted of killing his 76-year-old grandfather and burning down the man's home in Belaire.

The East Baton Rouge Parish jury found the man guilty of first-degree murder, and the 33-year-old requested life in prison, which was granted. He will not have the benefit of suspension of sentence, probation or parole, according to the news report. Initially, the man's lawyer had allegedly asked the jury to convict the 33-year-old of manslaughter, which carries a sentence of only 40 years or less. However, report suggests that the man burning down the house with his grandfather inside was too much for the jury, making manslaughter too light a sentence. According to the son of the 76-year-old, who is the father of the 33-year-old man who was sentenced, he asked not to have the death sentence because his son was on trial.

Understanding the charges you are facing, as well as the possible punishments is paramount to building a strong defense. Your attorney can help by working with you to build a defense that could repute the prosecution's evidence and might result in a positive outcome in your case.
