It’s no secret that drunk driving is dangerous, but getting caught can result in a number of fines and may lead to arrest and imprisonment. If you’ve been accused of a DUI, there are steps you can take to protect yourself from slander and other ways your reputation could be ruined.
News from Dec. 2 states that a 49-year-old man has now been accused of a third DWI after he allegedly struck a police unit on Interstate 110 in Baton Rouge. The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested the man on Dec. 1, according to the report, because he struck a police unit that had its lights on and was helping a stranded motorist.
The accident happened at around 8:00 p.m., and no one was injured. However, the man did continue to drive after the accident, but he was located a short while later near Harding Blvd., according to the news. The man allegedly admitted to committing the crime and causing the accident, although he said he only fled because he panicked at the time of the accident.
When he was taken into custody, he showed signs of intoxication, according to the news. When he was given a Breathalyzer test, his blood alcohol content was allegedly .17 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit. Now, the man has been charged with a number of crimes including a 3rd offense DWI, a charge for the reckless operation of a vehicle, and a charge for a hit and run accident.
If you’re involved in an accident like this one, it’s important to seek legal guidance. You may be able to protect yourself against a ruined reputation or unfair punishments. In some cases, you may be able to keep your name and the situation out of the media, helping you maintain a normal work, home and social life while your case is pending.
