Multiple Louisiana residents facing fraud charges

According to the Department of Justice, the New Orleans area is a hotbed for multimillion fraud crimes, with nearly a dozen Louisiana residents in the area facing charges. The allegations are in connection with more than $100 million in fraudulent Medicare claims coming from a variety of sources. One such charge involves three individuals who submitted more than $33 million in home health care services claims, most of which investigators believe are fraudulent.

Another case involves a woman who received psychotherapy services which her company allegedly provided. However, reports indicate that the woman used a provider number that was not associated with her place of work, but instead that of a social worker. The woman was not authorized to use this provider number. She allegedly submitted fraudulent claims for nearly $2 million.

These are just a few of the many cases the federal investigators are pursuing in the New Orleans area, which is why white-collar workers should be aware of the threats of white collar crimes. Crimes such as fraud and embezzlement are not taken lightly by the government. If you are accused of white-collar crime, it is imperative that you take legal action in your defense as quickly as possible.

White-collar crimes are different from other crimes in many ways, and with millions of dollars often at stake in the alleged crime, the risks are too high to take lightly. In addition to jail time, you could be facing excessive fines if you are asked to pay back the money you were accused of stealing. You cannot act too quickly in your defense, so it may truly be of benefit to meet with an attorney as soon as you find out you are suspected of a white-collar crime.
