Drug dispute leads to 5 arrests in Baker

Drug offenses are getting a lot of attention in Louisiana lately. With the rise of prescription painkillers, heroin and other Opioid abuse, law enforcement has spent a lot of time cracking down on those engaged in drug activities. Drug offenses in Louisiana can carry serious penalties, including jail time.

Recently, five people were arrested in Baker for drug charges. Police were called to an active shooting on Landry Drive. The alleged suspects fled the scene but were later arrested in the Rileyville area of Clinton, with one other being arrested at his grandmother's house in Ethel. One person in the group was disputing another about not receiving marijuana that he said he had paid for. He and his brother, cousin, and friend confronted the person who was supposed to be giving him the marijuana, and a fight ensued. After the fight, the brother shot several rounds into the crowd. The suspects are now facing charges including criminal mischief, illegal discharge of a weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted 1st degree murder.

A person who is charged with a drug offense or other serious crime related to drugs may feel like no one is on their side. Drug offenses get a lot of attention and not much sympathy from the public. But law enforcement may make mistakes. There can be an illegal search, the drugs may belong to someone else, the drugs may have been planted, etc. Because drug offenses are serious crimes, a person facing them may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in criminal defense.

An attorney has the experience to know what can go wrong in an investigation and how they can best defend their client against these serious charges. The defendant gets a chance to tell their side of the story and make sure their legal rights are protected.

Those who are facing drug charges in Baton Rouge know how scary a time this can be. A legal professional is a good resource for advice and to provide a voice for those who may feel like they are voiceless.
