Suspect arrested in birthday shooting of teen

| Apr 7, 2017 | Firm News, Murder & Other Homicide Crimes |

A 16-year-old’s birthday party turned tragic last week when the 49-year-old father of the birthday boy mistakenly fired his gun, striking and killing the young man. The boy left his home in the morning to visit a friend’s house on North Harrells Ferry Road in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Around 1 p.m., before the young man’s party at the house, the father was playing with his gun and mistakenly discharged it, hitting the young man in the head.

Police found the young man on the floor of the home. He was transported to a local hospital where he died. The father fled the scene; a relative stated that the man said he was not coming back and would not talk to the police. His run was short-lived, however, as he was found three hours later on I-10 in Lake Charles. He was subsequently booked at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on second-degree murder charges.

If found guilty of such serious charges, the man will likely face a lengthy prison sentence. In addition, his criminal conviction will ultimately impact other facets of his life as well, including possibly future employment.

Anyone facing serious charges such as homicide may want to consider hiring a professional defense team to fight the charges. Lawyers working on behalf of their client may be able to get the charges reduced or even dismissed, depending upon the situation. Likewise, an experienced criminal defense attorney can challenge the prosecution’s evidence, while also finding other evidence that support their client’s version of events
