Hit and run results in drug charges among others

A traffic violation in Louisiana and other states could transpire into more charges. Facing criminal allegations is a difficult predicament to be in. This is especially true when an individual is being accused of various charges. While it may have started out with a traffic stop, if law enforcement recovers certain evidence, a motorist could also face drug charges as well.

This is what occurred recently in Livingston Parish. According to reports, the Louisiana State Police arrested a 26-year-old male. This arrest was in connection to an automobile wreck that occurred on I-12 back in November. Based on investigation, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene shortly after the collision.

Supposedly, the driver rear-ended another vehicle, spoke with the driver of the other vehicle, handed her his ID then he fled the scene on foot. When authorities arrived, they identified the driver by his ID and then began to search his vehicle. During this search, officers allegedly found a syringe filled with a substance they suspected to be drugs. After testing the contents, it was determined it was methamphetamine. The man was soon apprehended and charged with a hit and run, careless operation, no license, no insurance, no seat belt, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a schedule II narcotic.

Whether an individual is facing one or multiple charges, it is important to consider the criminal defense options available to you. There are many factors to consider, such as one's criminal history, when devising a defense strategy; however, implementing a defense action could help a defendant reduce and even dismiss some or all of the charges.
