Do you qualify for drug court in Baton Rouge?

Baton Rouge has a drug court program designed to help offenders who struggle with substance use disorder. The 19th Judicial District Court Adult Drug Court strives to provide court-supervised recovery and prevent future involvement in the criminal justice system.

Drug court eligibility

Individuals must live in East Baton Rouge Parish and have pending non-violent substance-related criminal charges. They must also be at least 18 years old and have a medical diagnosis of substance use disorder. If you or a family member meets these qualifications, you can seek a referral from the attorney, judge, or arresting law enforcement officer in your case.

Participation requirements

Drug court takes a little over a year and requires the completion of five program phases. During phases I and II, you must meet with the Drug Court Judge each week, attend substance use support group meetings and treatment groups at least three times a week, pay all required fees, and pass random drug tests at least twice a week. You must also remain a full-time student or worker.

During phase 3, you will have more support group meetings but fewer required meetings with the judge. You must also develop a plan to prevent relapse. During phase 4, you must complete community service hours and develop an aftercare plan.

Finally, in phase 5, you will attend 12 weeks of continuing care before qualifying to graduate from the Baton Rouge drug court.
