Fred A. Menner, an attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baton Rouge, has been named a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar Foundation. The foundation works to improve the justice system and promote equal justice under the law. Julie Coco, quality and risk management director for The Regional Medical Center of Acadiana, earned the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management from the American Hospital Association Certification Center.

Certification is based on eligibility requirements, an agreement to adhere to AHA standards of conduct and passing a certification exam.

Stephen Allain, an account executive with Cox Business, has been named “Ambassador of the Year” by the Ascension Parish Chamber of Commerce.

Leslie Venable Adams, of Denham Springs, has received one of 10 Career Advancement Scholarships awarded by the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation. Scholarships go to recipients pursuing bachelors degrees in science, technology, engineering or mathematics or related fields where women are traditionally under-represented.

LSU AgCenter entomologist Natalie Hummel was accepted for the USA Rice Leadership Program.

The Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers awarded the Trustees of Freedom Gideon Award to George Steimel; the Sam Dalton Capital Defense Advocacy Award to the Baton Rouge Capital Conflict Office; and the Criminal Justice Act Panel Award to Thomas C. Damico, of Baton Rouge. Jill A. Guillory and Ben LaBranche, both of Baton Rouge, received the President’s Award from Paul C. Fleming Jr., president of the association, recognizing individuals who have gone above and beyond in the best interest of the association during the year.

Steimel, a lobbyist for the association for more than 15 years, was recognized for outstanding contributions to the Right to Counsel, including legislative work, and a concern for clients and Criminal Justice.

The Conflict Office was honored for its dedication to Capital Defense Advocacy in Louisiana. Damico was recognized for his extraordinary commitment, professionalism and achievement in the representation of clients in the federal courts of Louisiana.
